about

Negotiations is the debut album by HEADLESS AND ALL ALONE. The 12 song record isn’t tethered to any trends or specific genre but borrows from 70’s Art Rock 80’s New Wave and 90’s Brit Pop. He aims to take from music's past and point one toe toward the future. "I recorded at home but I didn't want it to sound like a bedroom record. It's me working at 100-percent of my ability but with limited resources, like a director of a classic B-Movie.”

Known to friends and family as Ryan, HEADLESS AND ALL ALONE wrote and recorded Negotiations in his Brooklyn apartment after an unfortunate series of events.
"I had just moved into my apartment, I came home from work and all of my stuff had been stolen, including all my gear. My first concern was how I was going to be able to make music. A lot of that gear took me years to accumulate so it was really devastating. Luckily, I had friends that helped me get at least get bare essentials for recording and then a week later I lost my job so things were pretty dark.
The making of this record was really a way to collect my thoughts but I didn't want it to be depressing. I wanted everything to be very catchy and fun. The idea was that the melodies are super happy and it's not until you read into the lyrics that you realize it's kind of dark. I was hyper critical of every song on the record and wrote over 40 songs to get to the 12 that made the record. There was a Rick Rubin quote that became my mantra. To paraphrase he said that if he was going into a studio with an artist he wanted them to have 50 songs because then maybe 10 of them would actually be good. “
